About Kids for Life
The Beginning
Kids for Life began in 2003, when a very persistent and social individual, Nathan Davis, decided to throw a party with the ultimate goal being to raise funds for research into life threatening childhood illnesses and disease. Through his network of friends, the organisation of this party soon turned from one person’s vision to that of a group of like minded people.
They aptly named themselves Kids for Life. From those small beginnings, Kids for Life has evolved into a registered charity, whose prime objective is to raise awareness and prevent childhood illnesses and disease.
Our Vision
Kids for Life is devoted to raising awareness of sick and under privileged children and helping Australian networks extend the best care to enrich and brighten the lives of these children and their families.
Our Mission
Our mission is to raise funds for research and awareness, to find cures for childhood illness and disease and assist in the welfare of children less fortunate than others. Overall we aim to improve their quality of life and that of their families.
What have the funds raised been used for?
Since inception in 2003, Kids for Life has raised over $1,300,000 for the children of Australia largely through the fund raising efforts surrounding our Annual Black Tie Ball held in Sydney each year.
In 2004 and 2005, Kids for Life raised much needed funds for the Children's Cancer Institute of Australia. 2005 also saw Kids for Life raise money for Father Chris Reilly's Orphanage project in Aceh, after the devastating Tsunami which ripped across South Asia on Boxing Day 2004.
In 2006 the committee decided these proceeds would be used for much needed equipment at the Intensive Care Units of Westmead, Randwick and John Hunter Children's Hospitals. In addition, monies raised were also used to fund a Kids for Life sponsored research program at the Children's Medical Research Institute. This decision supports one of Kids for Life’s objectives, that being directing funds to preventative research.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Institute and the Stephen Sanig Research Foundation were the beneficiaries of monies raised at the 2007 Ball, where $300,000 was raised by guests and sponsors on the night.
And in 2008 we raised in excess of $325,000 which helped ASPECT build the The Kids for Life Sensory Room, the continuing research by PRaMM (Perinatal Research and Maternal Medicine) at Royal North Shore Hospital and the launch of the Headstart Club, a daily breakfast program for primary school children in Cherbourg, QLD.
